confused with the German cockroach. A lot
of times they will be seen with or around

furniture, and boxes. They are very
common in the southern states, however
are found in northern states also. DIET:They

| German Roach |
APPEARANCE:
Adults are 1/2 inch- 5/8 inch long, light
to medium brown with 2 dark distinctive
stripes behind the head. The young (nymphs)
are wingless, smaller and much darker in
color, with a light stripe on their backs. DIET:
These cockroaches eat most anything.
They tend to stay near a food and water
source. However when there is a heavy
population they are found in appliances,
behind pictures, in clocks, in the rubber
seals around refrigerators, in boxes and
furniture.
HABITS AND BIOLOGY: The
Females will produce an egg capsule every
3-4 weeks which contains as many as 45
eggs. She will carry the egg capsule with
her until it is ready to hatch. The young
(nymphs) can start reproduction in 35-40
days. These cockroaches are seen at
night, for example, when a kitchen light
is turned on. If you're seeing them
during the day it most likely means there
is a heavy population. Infestations are
generally found in kitchens and bathrooms. The
German cockroach is the most common
cockroach infesting homes, apartment
houses, stores, restaurants, warehouses,
hospitals and hotels. These cockroaches
are carried or brought in to structures
in everything from paper bags, boxes,
clothing, to food stuffs. Most often they
go unnoticed until the infestation is
heavy. These cockroaches produce the most
eggs, have the shortest development
cycle, and are more adaptive to feeding
habits than most of the cockroaches. They
have the ability to develop a resistance
against some insecticides. In a short
period of time these cockroaches can
"over run" a structure. Top
